HUBUNGAN STRES AKADEMIK DAN MANAJEMEN STRES TERHADAP CAPAIAN NILAI UJIAN FINAL BLOK MAHASISWA PREKLINIK FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNIVERSITAS ALKHAIRAAT PALU
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Academic stress is a common condition experienced by medical students due to the heavy academic workload, demanding learning requirements, and frequent evaluations. In addition, students' ability to manage stress through coping strategies is believed to influence their academic performance. This study aimed to determine the relationship between academic stress and stressmanagement and final block examination scores among preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Alkhairaat University, Palu. This study employed a quantitative analytical observational approach using a cross-sectional design with two measurements conducted before and after the final block examination. The study included 152 preclinical medical students who met the inclusion criteria. Academic stress was assessed using the Medical Student Stress Questionnaire (MSSQ), while stress management was evaluated using the Brief COPE questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The findings indicated that none of the domains of academic stress or stress management showed a statistically significant relationship with final block examination scores (p > 0.05). Nearly half of the participants (48.7%) achieved low final block examination scores, and the majority of students (82.9%) tended to adopt dysfunctional coping strategies. This study found no significant relationship between academic stress, stress management, and final block examination scores among preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Alkhairaat University, Palu. These findings suggest that students' academic performance may be influenced by various factors other than academic stress and stress management.
