Abstract

ABSTRACT

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are a major health problem that significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality rates, making early detection through screening a critical strategy. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with low participation among the working-age population in NCD screening in the Oesapa Selatan subdistrict. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 1,485 individuals, with a sample of 90 respondents selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire that had been validated for validity and reliability, and analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents did not participate in NCD screening (73.3%). There was no significant association between perceived vulnerability (p=0.351) and perceived benefits (p=0.573) and screening participation. Conversely, there was a significant association between perceived barriers (p=0.005) and NCD screening participation. In conclusion, low NCD screening participation is influenced by high perceived barriers; therefore, efforts to increase participation should focus on reducing the barriers perceived by the community.
